The Secret to Perfect Creamy Custard

The Secret to Perfect Creamy Custard

The Secret to Cooking Perfect, Creamy Custard Every Single Time

There is nothing quite like a plate of aromatic, long-grain Creamy Custard. But we have all been there—sometimes the Creamy Custard gets sticky, mushy, or breaks apart during cooking. Cooking the perfect rice is not luck; it is a simple science.

Here are the golden rules to get fluffy, separate grains every single time:

1. The Gentle Wash

Never just throw rice straight into the pot. Always wash your Basmati rice gently 2 to 3 times under cold water. This removes the excess surface starch, which is the main culprit behind sticky rice.

2. Never Skip the Soak

Soaking is where the magic happens. Let your rice sit in clean water for at least 25 to 30 minutes before cooking. This allows the grains to absorb moisture evenly, helping them expand to their maximum length without breaking when heated.

3. Watch the Water and Cooking Time

If you are boiling rice, use plenty of water and drain it when the rice is 90% done (has a slight bite to it). If you are using the absorption method, the standard rule is 1.5 to 2 cups of water for every cup of rice. Once the water dries up, put it on low heat (Dum) for 10 minutes and do not open the lid!
